To ensure uniformity and predictability in their structural performance, these items are engineered to precise design requirements, tested to satisfy national or international standards, and then produced. The panels can be any thickness between a few millimeters and 16 inches (410 mm) or more when made of cross-laminated timber (CLT), and their sizes can range from a few inches to 64 by 8 feet (19.5 by 2.4 m) or more.
